New millennium Belorussia began from a wide national strike of the businessmen.
As for 3.01.2001 Minsk, all regional
centres and majority district (more than 90 %) strike. More than
200.000 men from whom approximately 100.000 businessmen and 100.000
people working on hiring took part in the strike. The national strike
will last for some days (up to 5.01.2001) and its main reason is that
the government is failed to execute the obligations to suspend
sanctions concerning the businessmen. Besides substantial talks of the
government with the strike committee of the businessmen has not begun
yet.
The strike is organised by the Belorussian Trade union of the
Businessmen and the strike committee of the businessmen of the
Republic of Belarus.
The state trade unions and some "leaders" from the state
attempted to break the strike. But they could make only a few hundreds
of men work everywhere in the republic and these people, as a rule,
are sellers who work for them on the agreement.
The strike has been a success though the solution on it was accepted
only 18.12.2000 and only 12 days were spent to prepare it (usually we
need 30-40 days to prepare such actions).
The short-term national strikes of businessmen will be conducted
regularly (approximately one time per one month) during all 2001 while
the government will not begin to execute the main requirements of the
businessmen. We are preparing the strike of businessmen without
time-limit. The strike has shown that the businessmen disagree with
the state policy spent by it in small and mean business. The
businessmen are ready to defend their rights and legitimate interests.

The main requirements of the participants of the strike:
1. Cancellation of the Order of the State customs committee of the
Republic of Belarus from September 20, 2000 N 55: "About customs
registration of the goods … " in a part concerned with the
personal businessmen;
2. Cancellation of administrative and criminal responsibility of the
personal businessmen to the formal and far-fetched reasons,
cancellation of the groundlessly high administrative fines for the
personal businessmen. The maximum size of the administrative fine
should not exceed 10 minimal wages;
3. Reduction of the rent payment for trade places. The cost of one
square meter of the trade area at the markets should not be higher
than the cost of square meter of the trade area in a shops;
4. Non-admission of increase of the present fixed rates of tax for the
personal businessmen on the project of the Decree "About the
single tax … ";
5. Modification in the Decrees of the President of RB #14 from
04.08.97 and #15 from 04.09.98 eliminating the confiscation of goods.
The property should be inviolable;
6. Beginning of substantial talks with the strike committee of the
businessmen;
7. Dismissal of the Minister of justice of the Republic of Belarus for
red tape and bureaucracy in registration of the Belorussian Trade
union of the Businessmen (BTUB);
8. Dismissal of the employees of militia preventing to work to the
trade union of the businessmen at the market "Dinamo" in
Minsk;
9. Increase of a mean wage and pensions up to 100 dollars of the USA
per one month, grant to the students up to 60 dollars of the USA by
May, 2001.
